The past several months I have participated in West Seattle’s Artwalk, the second Thursday of the month, showing my work at Zats A Better Bagel. The current display is called A Murder of Crows. (A grouping of crows is called a murder.)
Crows in flight are art in motion — a beautiful thing to behold! I am fascinated by the aerial ballet performed in silhouette by a group of crows. I toss out peanuts and watch their graceful jet black bodies soar, swoop, dive, strut, grab a peanut and ascend. They follow me as I walk and perform flying tricks to get my attention and more peanuts. Their beauty and grace inspired me to create these sculpted tiles using black clay, oxidation fired to cone 5.
